Programme
Day 1: Arrival in Gruissan
Upon your arrival, you'll be greeted by our representatives who will help you settle in. In June, July, August and September check-in happens only on Saturday.
The chalets:
Our chalets, specially selected for their quality are located on the edge of the beach, on submersible sands. They used to be summer cabins on stilts built in the 19th century by daring local vacationers, but were almost completely destroyed during WWII. Rebuilt from the 1950s onwards, still on stilts and placed obliquely so as to guarantee a view on the sea, they now house holiday makers looking for sun and sea pleasures right on the Mediterranean, without having to fly to faraway tropics.
The chalets offer accommodation for all budgets – from simple to very comfortable amenities – particularly in the low season, when you can enjoy the quietest seaside rest on a deserted beach.
Gruissan:
Situated on the Mediterranean coast, 10mn from Narbonne and 2 hours from Spain by car, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, the village has only 2,000 permanent residents. Its unique features are a circular pattern of streets winding around the medieval Barberousse Tower, a lovely harbour, as well as the Ayguades and Gruissan beaches with the famous chalets. And, as a crowning jewel, the high quality of its sea water and beach was rewarded with the prestigious “Blue Flag” certification.
An eco-friendly environment
For the observing eco-tourist, the interest of the place also resides in a wide network of bicycle lanes, allowing for relaxed tours of the surroundings and rides to shop for groceries in the old village where a colourful outdoor market is held three times a week. There are beautiful family rides to be made along the marked lane of the Oules. Near the old village, the Salin de Gruissan (salt marsh) is a protected place where you can discover migratory birds and its natural wealth: salt. The ecomuseum invites you to travel back in time and witness the harvesting of salt in the early 20th century.
There’s plenty to do for each and everyone: little children can build castles in the sand and splash around in safe, shallow water, teenagers can do fun nautical sports on the Mateille lake and parents can observe the fascinating vegetation and ecosystem of the marshes.
Accommodation
Rental is possible throughout the year.
From June to September, rentals are made only by the week, from one Saturday to the next.
The chalets offer different features and facilities within a wooden structure. All Chalets with cooking facilities (Fully equipped kitchen), a terrace and queen size and single beds ( according to the detailed offer)
Bed linen is not included in our prices, nor house cleaning at the end of the stay, but these services can be requested on the spot. In wintertime, the cost of heating is not included either in the price and the supplement must be paid directly to the owner. Parking available at the bottom of the chalets.
Activities
At the end of the Chalets Beach, you can visit the oyster park and the Salins ecomuseum.
On the gastronomic side, you can follow the road of Corbières wines and visit the many cellars of organic wine makers. A wide range of restaurants is available in the village. Early in the morning you can buy fresch croissants and baguettes on the spot and eat them on your terrace. Taste the local specialities and enjoy the french cooking!
A bike ride to Narbonne will let you discover the rich cultural offer of this former Roman capital of the “Provincia Narbonensis” – in particular the Roman horreum (warehouse) – as well as later landmarks such as the Palace of Archbishops and the house of singer Charles Trenet.
The 20 km bike lane “La littorale” connects Gruissan, Les Ayguades, Narbonne-Plage, Saint-Pierre la Mer and Fleury. Between Gruissan Plage and the village, it’s only over a mile, so a quick ride to the market. Have a lovely holiday!

Located at the foot of the Clape mountains, the little Mediterranean town of Gruissan beckons to holidaymakers in search of nature. Gruissan is a matchless little resort town, thanks to its exceptional natural surroundings and three remarkable features: its circular Old Village, its beaches and its harbour. Its beach of chalets on stilts, made famous by the film “Betty Blue” by Jean-Jacques Beinex, is a beautiful spread of fine sand occasionally swept through by rough seas, and is a haven for seabirds such as the little tern. Then, there is the Mateille beach, a natural heritage site protected by the Conservatory of the Mediterranean Coast. Not only is it a great spot for windsurfers, but the salt marshes of Gruissan offer a cosy breeding ground to some migratory birds. Finally, with its lagoons and the 37,000 acres of protected La Clape mounts, Gruissan is a paradise for all nature lovers, enjoying a rare combination of geological, hydraulic and weather conditions. No wonder that the site was awarded the prestigious Blue Flag distinction!
