Join us on this 7 day culinary and cultural bike tour in Southern France! Our English speaking guide will take you along the Canal du Midi, allowing you to explore its impressive architecture, discover the medieval city of Carcassonne, and enjoy the region's world famous cuisine and wines. Crossing the vineyards surrounding the historic canal, stop at renowned wineries and taste their excellent Minervois wines. A Cassoulet tasting – a delicious stew and the region's traditional dish – will round off your culinary experience.
Day 1: Arrival – wine village
Your host Anne will pick you up at Narbonne train station and take you to her guest house in a nearby wine village where you will spend the first two nights and commence your bike tour along the Canal du Midi.
Tag 2: Minervois wine day
Enjoy an amazing day dedicated to the Minervois region's outstanding wines. Spend the morning cycling through Anne's vineyard and exploring the art of organic winegrowing and different varieties. After lunch visit the biodynamic winegrower Eric, taste some 3 – 5 excellent Minervois wines, and learn about this specific cultivation and also winemaking and bottling.

Tag 3: Le Somail – Homps
Today's tour will take you to Somail, a beautiful 17th century port village, painted by many famous artists. Visit its 18th century bridge and its beautiful chapel containing the country's largest collection of ancient French books. Continue on, following the Canal du Midi to Homps. Along the way, stop at the Pont-Canal de Répudre, France's first canal bridge, built by the canal's famous engineer Jean-Paul Riquet.

Tag 4: Homps – Carcassonne
Continue your tour along the canal, passing several watergates and stopping at three of the canal's most impressive structures, the Argentdouble, the Pont-Canal d'Orbiel and the watergate of Fresquel, and finally arriving in Carcassonne where you will spend the next two nights.
Day 5: Carcassonne
Spend the day discovering the beautiful city of Carcassonne. In the morning, a guided tour will take you around its historic city centre, its impressive fortified walls, medieval castle, small alleyways and arenas. In the The afternoon, keep exploring the city on your own initiative.
Day 6: Carcassonne – Castelnaudary
Keep following the Canal du Midi toward Castelnaudary, passing various watergates and visiting the Epanchoir de Faucoud and the aqueduct of Rebenty. In Castelaundary, be sure to visit the “new” and “old” bridge Pont Neuf and Vieux Pont, le Grand Bassin (a manmade lake) and the bridge and watergate of Saint Roch.
Distance: approx. 42km/26mi
An optional detour (to be decided by the group) will take you to the pond of Naurouze (16km/10mi there and back), a small water basin, continuously filled with fresh water and surrounded by a beautiful park.
In the evening, enjoy a traditional Cassoulet, one of the classics of Southern France's outstanding cuisine, accompanied by some of the region's finest wines.
Day 7: Departure
After breakfast, our bike tour ends at Castelnaudary train station (connections to Toulouse, Narbonne and Montpellier). Have a safe trip home of feel free to extend your stay in Southern France!
