You'll start in Hendaye and see the southern French landscape display its beauty all the way to Banyuls sur Mer on the Côte Vermeille. This 786km tour is meant for in-form cyclists.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hendaye – Itxassou

Participants ride from Hendaye to Itxassou via the Pyrenean foothills.

Number of mountain passes: 2
Distance covered: 50km – altitude difference: +272m

Day 2: Itxassou – Saint Jean Pied de Port

An easy leg through the heart of the Basques.

Distance covered: 58km – altitude difference: +332m

Day 3: Saint Jean Pied de Port – Gurmençon

Participants will have an easy ride through Col d´Osquich mountain pass.

Distance covered: 85km – altitude difference: +378m

Day 4: Gurmençon – Lestelle Bétharram

Participants will leave the department Pyrénées Atlantiques and advance through Bois du Bager forest to reach the department of Hautes Pyrénées.

Distance covered: 50km – altitude difference: +349m

Day 5: Lestelle Bétharram – Gavarnie

This is the most challenging leg of the tour but participants will be rewarded with the view of the majestic Cirque du Gavarnie: a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

Distance covered: 65km – altitude difference: +1148m

Day 6: Gavarnie – Beaudéan

Participants will take the Col de la Croix Blanche mountain pass and ride through the Val d´Adour valley.

Day 7: Beaudéan – Labarthe Inard

Participants cycle from the foot of the Baronnies to La Barousse.

Distance covered: 85km – altitude difference: +152m

Day 8: Labarthe Inard – Lorp Sentaraille

Day 8 is all about cycling the Col de Larrieu mountain pass.

Distance covered: 55km – altitude difference: +456m

Day 9: Lorp Sentaraille – Lavelanet

Participants do both the Le Pas de Portel and Le Col de Py mountain passes in the direction of department Ariège.

Day 10: Lavelanet – Saint Paul de Fenouillet

In this leg, participants reach the department of Pyrénées Orientales via the Col Del Teil, Col de la Babourade, Col de Portel and Col de Camperie passes.

Day 11: Saint Paul de Fenouillet – Banyuls sur Mer

Participants will enjoy the sight of vineyards while passing through the Col de la Bataille pass.

Day 12: Banyuls sur Mer

No leg today. Just some breakfast before goodbyes.

Guests will spend all nights in either 2 or 3-star hotels (half-board).

Participants will encounter 12 moutain passes in total (ascending up to 830m).
Total distance covered: 786km (489mi). Total altitude difference: 3922m. You must be prepared to spend 5-7 hours on your bike each day.

Participants must be used to regular exercise. You can experience an elevation of 200 to 300m an hour.

How to get there

We recommend the TGV and night train to Hendaye once you get to Paris or Lyon.
