This easy hike will take you on an amazing tour through Catalonia and Occitania. Discover the medieval Cathar castles Quéribus, Peyrepertuse, Puylaurens, Puivert and Montségur as you follow our guide on the hiking trail Citadelles du Vertige. Itinerary

Day 1: Quéribus – Duilhac
Our tour starts at Foix train station, where you will be picked up (09:00am) and taken to the point of departure of your first hike. From the mountain pass Grau de Maury make your way up to the amazing castle of Quéribus before heading on to Cucugnan and finally Duilhac, where you will spend the first night.
Duration: 3-4hrs – elevation gain: 150m/490ft – elevation loss: 500m/1,640ft

Day 2: Peyrepertuse – La Bastide de Camps
Following a visit of Peyrepertuse, the second largest of the Cathar castles, today's hike will take you through the impressive Galamus gorges, the hermitage of Saint-Antoine de Galamus and to your next accommodation in the beautiful 15th century village of La Bastide de Camps.
Duration: 6hrs – elevation gain: 600m/1,970ft – elevation loss: 600m/1,970ft

Day 3: Corbières
Having crossed beautiful grasslands and the mountain passes at the foot of the Pech de Bugarach, you will ascend towards the gorges of Saint Jaume, overlooked by the three castles of Fenouillet, before heading on towards your next accommodation Aiguebonnes.
Duration: 5-6hrs – elevation gain: 500m/1,640ft – elevation loss: 650m/2,130ft

Day 4: Puilaurens – Aude valley
At the intersection of two valleys lies the lordly castle of Puilaurens. Following a tour of the castle, take the forest trail to Axat and continue on through the high valley of the Aude river. Finally, a minibus will take you to your inn in Labau, a small village overlooking the Rebenty valley.
Duration: 5-6hrs – elevation gain: 450m/1,480ft – elevation loss: 480m/1,570ft

Day 5: Puivert
Today's hike will take you across the Sault plateau above the Rebenty gorges and through the long Nébias valley before descending towards the Puivert valley and its beautiful lake castle. Visit the Quercorb museum in Puivert before turning in for the night.
Duration: 6-7hrs – elevation gain: 400m/1,310ft – elevation loss: 450m/1,480ft

Day 6: Pog de Montsegur
A short bus ride will take you to the plateau of Langarail. Enjoy some amazing views of the Pog de Montségur and the Pyrenees as you make your way between the Aude und Ariége rivers. Spend your last night in the famous Occitan village Comus near Montaillou.
Duration: 5-6hrs – elevation gain: 450m/1,480ft – elevation loss: 250m/820ft

Day 7: Montségur
In the early morning set out towards the gorges de la Frau and Montségur castle before taking the bus back to Foix (railway station 05:30 pm) , where your hiking trip ends.

6 nights at local inns (5 nights in small dormitories and 1 night in a double bedroom, or 6 nights in 2-3 bedrooms).

Average daily hikes: 5-6 hours with elevation differences ranging from 400m to 800m (1,310-2,620ft).
Your luggage will be transferred from one accommodation to the next, allowing you to enjoy the hike carrying nothing but your lunch picnic and some personal belongings.
Guide: Local, French speaking guide ( English speaking guide on demand , only for group from 8 participants) with inside knowledge of the Corbières mountains and the Cathar history.

We recommend a low-carbon train ride to Foix via Toulouse.
