The mountain ranges of the Chartreuse invite you to a region of marvelous winter landscapes. Embark on a unique snowshoe hike through the little-known Savoie nature park and enjoy regional specialities!
Discover the impressive mountain massif in the nature park far away from ski lifts and tourist masses! From your comfortable accommodation you will slip into snowshoes andset off in a small group to the snow-covered monastery of La Grande Chartreuse, the church of St Hugues or simply to admire the spectacular views from the mountain peaks and the landscapes of wide valleys breathtaking glaciers on the routes. This includes passing through small snow-covered mountain villages along the way.

Day 1: Arrival in Saint-Pierre de Chartreuse
Participants can choose between meeting either at the hotel in St Pierre de Chartreuse at 7pm or at Grenoble TGV station at 6pm (a pick-up service from the station is available for a charge of €25 (includes return), please notify us via the online enquiry when making your reservation).
Day 2: Col de Porte
The group starts at Col de Porte (1326m) and walk through secluded woods to the summit of Montfromage (1662 m). Expect a magnificent view at the highest point of today's leg.

Day 3: The monastery of La Grande Chartreuse
Discover the more than 900-year-old monastery. The group will visit the adjacent sheep farm for some exciting anecdotes about La Grande Chartreuse.

Day 4: The summit of La Cochette
The group mount the summit of La Cochette (1618 m) with a view of the massif of the Grand Som. Walk down through Désert d'Entremont.

Day 5: St Pierre de Chartreuse and the church of St Hugues
The group visits the hamlets of St Pierre de Chartreuse and the church of St Hugues.

Day 6: Charming summit of Som - Dispersal
Today's ascent leads to Alpine pastures, then to the summit of Charmant Som with panoramic views. Ende of the walking tour at St Pierre de Chartreuse at 4:15pm or at Grenoble Gare TGV around 5:15pm

Dinner gives you the opportunity to discover the region's culinary specialities. The extensive lunch picnics are complemented by snacks during the hike (dried fruit, chocolate, biscuits). It is also a tradition for participants to bring along a little something typical of their homeland to the picnic on the first day of hiking. That way, the group can get to know the culinary peculiarities of the different regions of Europe. If it is too cold outside for a picnic, your mountain guide will do his best to find shelter in a chalet or hut so that you can enjoy your lunch break in peace.
This hike is suitable for hikers who are in good physical condition. Snowshoeing can be learned quickly and easily on the spot.
Average length of hikes: 4 to 5 hours per day.
Terrain: The tour consists of mountaineous hiking trails or mountain paths with differences in altitude between 400 and 500 metres.
All you need for the stages are your personal belongings for the day and your picnic lunch.
We assure you of a French, state-certified mountain guide who is a specialist for the region. The travel language is French.
We recommend an environmentally friendly and comfortable journey by train to Grenoble TGV station. There is a transfer from here, if desired.
