This wonderful hike connects a fascinating cultural heritage with the natural and diversified landscape at the border of the departments Aveyron and Tarn-et-Garonne.

From Caylus over St Antonin and Varen to Najac, you walk by characteristic places and historical forts from the Middle-Age. Next to those cultural highlights, the warm and culinary stays by selected hosts will stay in your memories.

A magnificient view on the gorges of the Aveyron and comfortable hiking trails will lead you directly to the heart of the medieval sites, where a curious walker will taste gladly the regional cuisine.

Day 1: Arrival in Villefranche de Rouergue
After you have arrived in Villefranche de Rouergue, a beautiful, well preserved Bastide on the riverside of the Aveyron, you will be welcomed of Stéphanie or Christine. After the visit of the medieval City, you'll be greeted in your B&B.Fine dinner in one of the best restaurants from Villefranche! Welcome in Aveyron!

Day 2: Villefranche de Rouergue – Parisot
On a long distance hiking trail you go hiking in the direction of Parisot, the birthplace of Jean de la Valette, the Grand Master of the Maltese Knights Hospitaller in charge during the Great Siege of Malta in the 16th century. As reminder, the capital of Malta is called since that time La Valletta. You eat in Parisot in a small country inn and sleep in a lovely B&B.

Day 3: Parisot – Caylus
This wonderful hike leads you to Lacapelle Livron, where an old commandery stands, and through the valley of the Bonnette until Caylus, where you will have an amazing point of view. In your guesthouse near Caylus you will enjoy the excellent cuisine of Fazana.

Day 4: Caylus – Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val
After the breakfast you will leave the accommodation in the direction of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val. The way goes through a forest and along he rivers Gourgue and Bonnette. Then, you will reach a limestone plateau and discover its cultural heritage of fountains, gariottes, crosses and dovecotes.
In the evening, you are welcomed in the wonderful B&B of the residence of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val with its delicious cuisine.

Day 5: Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val – Laguépie
Today lap hike on a high route that offers a stunning panorama over Saint-Antonin, the gorges of Aveyron . At 4:30 pm transfer to Laguépie.

Distance: 11 km / 7 mi – Difference in altitude: 500m

Day 6: Laguépie – Najac
This hike leads you to the wild valley of Baye on the tracks of wild boars, deers, rabbits, butterflies and squirrels. In the afternoon, you can visit Najac, that is known as “one of the most beautiful village in France”. Above the Aveyron stands the puissant fort of Najac. The construction goes over more than one kilometre on the ridge. For the dinner in you accommodation, you will be served amazing combinations of rural influence and own crations. The bedroom, sophisticated and calm, also plays with those aspects.

Day 7: Najac – Villefranche de Rouergue
On the last stage you will discover a multifaceted biodiversity. The high-contrast landscape of the Faille du Rouergue goes from the limestone plateau (causse) to the forest of Ségala with its shady chestnuts and the rich flowery scents of the brooms. After you have crossed the gorges of the Aveyron and have left the castle of Coubière, you continue on the limestone plain where the horizon hides behind juniper scrubs. The hike guides you through high ways bordered by viburnums, privets and cornel chery trees. After picnicing, you come back to Villefranche de Rouergue where you luggage are ready for the departure at the end of the day.Or Overstay extension possible.

Nights in selected guest houses (B&B and 3 star hotels) with privated bathroom and toilets.
The dog are allowed (max. 2).

If one accommodation is full, we will look for another one for you, which means you may spend two nights at the same place. A transfer will then be organised. The itinerary will normally not be changed. If it is, it will be indicated on your roadbook.

The breakfast is traditional (Sometimes presented as a buffet) and will be served between 7.30 and 8 am. If you want to have the breakfast at anothet ime, you can ask your host the day before.
The dinner will be normally served at 7.30 pm. There are often two choices/menus with regional specialities.
The picnic is prepared with regional products and is included in the price of the trip.

Average duration of the hike: 3 to 6 hours a day with minor differences in altitude.
Some stages guides you on grasy and stony roads, other on small bituminised ways without traffic.
