Join us on this 7 day hike between the mountains and the sea along the beautiful Côte Vermeille in Southwest France and Northern Spain. Discover the Roussillon region and Catalonia, and visit Port Lligat, the home town of Salvator Dalí.

At the border between France and Spain, embark on a unique hike on the mountain crest overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and along one of France's most beautiful coasts, the Côte Vermeille.

Starting in Perpignan, follow the trail of the famous Catalan painters. For centuries, the sun-blessed Côte Vermeille and its exeptional colours have attracted and inspired world-renowned painters such as Dalí, Miró, Pitxot, Picasso and Matisse. Cross the Albères mountain chain and discover its famous 14th century light houses, and follow the Pyrenees to their foot right by the sea, creating impressive bays.

This trip takes you off the beaten paths to explore beautiful landscapes untouched by tourism. Enjoy this hike in spring, autumn or even winter to escape the cold and enjoy the Côte Vermeille's gentle climate!

Day 1: Collioure
This hiking trip starts at the train station of Perpignan, described as the “centre of the world” by Dalí. After a small transfer to the Lavall canyon, you will set out on your first hike exploring the Massane tower with its unique view of the Roussillon region as well as the Côte de Vermeille, and finally descending towards Collioure where your first day ends with a city tour on the trails of the Fauvism movement.
Duration: 3h30-4hrs – elevation gain: 300m – elevation loss: 250m transfer time: 30min

Day 2: Banyuls
After a morning visit of the royal castle in Collioure, follow us on our hike through the fragrant maquis forest towards the Madeloc tower and enjoy the beautiful view of Coullioure and Banyuls. After the descent, enjoy a refreshing wine tasting at one of Banyuls' famous wine cellars.

Day 3: Albères nature reserve
Today's hike will take you through the Albères nature reserve and across the border to Spain, passing the the Querroig tower and following the mountain crest towards the sea until you reach the Spanish port city of Llança.

Day 4: San-Père-de-Roda
The hike up to the cloister of San-Père-de-Roda will be rewarded with an unforgettable panoramic view of the Golfe du Lion and the bay of Rosas. Depending on seasonal opening hours and potential renovation works, you may take a tour through the cloister. Finally, embark on the descent to Port de la Selva where the day ends.

Day 5: Port Lligat
Heading towards Cadaquès, explore the bay of Cala Taballera and the mountains with their panoramic lookouts. Along the way, visit the city Port Lligat where Salvador Dalí lived and visit the museum dedicated to the famous artist.
Duration: 5hrs – elevation gain: 400m – elevation loss: 400m

Day 6: Cap de Creüs
Discover the nature park Cap de Creüs whose light house, cliffy rocks and idyllic bays inspired the works of Salvador Dalí. If the weather is nice, we recommend that you take a boat trip to the Cap (approx. €13 per person).

Day 7: Figueres – Perpignan
On the way back to Perpignan, make sure to visit the Dalí Museum in Figueres. The trip ends at Perpignon train station at around 1pm. transfer time: 1h30

We recommend this tour for all those with hiking experience or exercising on a regular basis.
Average duration of the hikes: 5 hours per day on designated hiking paths (longest leg: 7 hours) with elevation gains between 300 and 800 metres per day.

Our luggage transfer service will allow you to enjoy the hike carrying nothing but a few personal items such as your wallet and camera as well as your picnic lunch.

A licensed local mountain guide will escort you during the hikes.

If you are travelling within Europe, we recommend that you arrive by train so as to reduce your carbon footprint.
