Welcome to Gruissan in Southern France! Natural surroundings, beautiful coast and Gruissan's picturesque town centre are some of the first things off the top of our heads when we think of the French Mediterranean. Swimming, an array water sports, hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing are among the many outdoor activities you can enjoy. Those looking for some peace and quiet will find a little paradise at the vast Laguna made of salt water lakes which extends along the coastline.
We believe you and your family will have a blast here.
Your beach chalets
2016: no more availability from the 16th of July until the 27th of August
weekly rental (Saturday through Saturday) only!
Our unique stilt chalets are located directly at the beach on an ever-growing alluvial sand space near Gruissan on the Mediterranean Sea. Built on stilts, 19th century fishermen designed the chalets to stay above water during floods. These lodgings were typical in the French Mediterranean until their destruction in the Second World War. Rebuilt according to their original design, the chalets now make for exceptional and truly eco friendly holiday homes, which range from simple to superior. The owners arranged them diagonally along the coast so that guests have an unobstructed view of the sea.
For one week, take advantage of the outdoor activities or simply take in the Mediterranean climate by the sea or in the Laguna.

Gruissan is a seaport located directly by the Mediterranean Sea, in France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region, in the Aude department, approx. 10 minutes from Narbonne and 2 hours from the Spanish border. The town has a population of 2,000 and is made up of several districts: Le Village (historical centre), Le Port (port district), Les Ayguades (natural beach area), and Gruissan-Plage (Gruissan Beach), where the beach chalets are located.
Gruissan is blessed with a well-preserved native environment. An extensive network of cycle paths allows you to explore its beautiful landscape without requiring a car. Be sure to visit Gruissan’s historical town centre which has been voted among “France’s most beautiful villages”. A traditional fishing and wine village, Gruissan is famous for its farmer’s market. Held three times per week, the market offers a huge variety of local specialties such as fish and seafood fresh off the boat, Mediterranean vegetables, olives, cheese, bread, meat and sausages – a great place to shop for fresh produce or simply chat with the locals! Wine lovers may follow the “Corbières” wine route to visit organic winemakers in the region and taste their extraordinary wines. A visit to Narbonne will allow you to discover the city’s rich cultural heritage, including the Roman horreum and the Archbishop’s Palace.
Gruissan Plage is a perfect place to spend your family summer holidays, allowing your kids to bathe, swim or snorkel in the clear, shallow water, build sand castles, or go fishing. Teenagers will find a variety of water activities at the Etang de Mateille, while the lagoons are a great location to relax and observe flamingos. You may also enjoy exploring the oyster park and the saline eco-museum, located right at the end of Gruissan Plage. We recommend visiting Gruissan during the off-season, as the beach is more tranquil.
We recommend a low-carbon train ride by TGV (high-speed train) to Narbonne via Paris or Lyon and Montpellier. From there, you can take the bus or a taxi to Gruissan-Plage.
The closest airport is Béziers (domestic flights only), or Carcassonne.
If you're travelling by plane, please consider offsetting your carbon emissions, for example through the atmosfair programme.
In the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as extreme weather conditions, the on-site team may be forced to alter or cancel your stay. In this case, you will be offered alternative accommodation in the area or you may reschedule your vacation.
